November 2012
We received a grant of $7,500 from the M&T Charitable Foundation
for our Power Hour homework help and tutoring program.
On November 20th, we held our annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Club for members
with special guests from the Binghamton Senators.
We received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for South Central New York
to go toward a new 15-passenger van.
We received a $1,000 grant from Staples for education and job skills programming.
The Binghamton Sertoma Club donated $8,000 for pool repairs
and upgrades at Camp Sertoma.

We received a grant of $18,375 from the United Way of Broome County
to go toward a new 15-passenger van.

Staples donated school supplies to our youth members.
August 2012
The Binghamton Sertoma Club donated $5,000 for the installation of a bathroom
in the Camp Sertoma residence hall.
Citizens Bank donated backpacks and school supplies through their Gear for Grades program.
Thank you to the All-Star Golf Tournament, presented by Security Mutual Life and the Black Aces this month, for choosing us as one of the participating charities.
On August 29th the Club received a visit from former professional baseball players, including members of the Black Aces and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
These former players signed baseballs for the kids
and spoke to them about achieving their dreams.
Thank you to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open, held this month, for choosing us as one of the participating charities.

June 2012
On June 21, we held our annual golf tournament to raise funds for the Club.

May 2012
We received a $1,500 grant from the Gannett Foundation
to support our Power Hour homework help and tutoring program.
We received a $5,000 grant from the Binghamton University Philanthropy Incubator to go toward our basketball program and/or a new van.
April 2012
We received a $2,000 grant from the Darden Foundation for Power Hour programming.
Through jcpenney, we received $4,158.55 in proceeds
from their "pennies from heaven" fundraiser.
On April 20 - 22, the Binghamton Sertoma Club held their annual Million Dollar Antique Show with proceeds to benefit our Club.
Binghamton University students who volunteer at the Club through their organization, Boys & Girls Club Mentors, held their annual carnival at the Club.
We participated in the first Walnut Street Park Cleanup.
Two of our basketball teams traveled to Niagara Falls to participate in the popular
Mark "Chief" Williams Memorial Basketball Tournament, where both teams
(11th/12th graders and 8th graders) won the tournament in their division!!
March 2012
Restaurant Week was held March 20 - 29. We received a total of $5,608 in proceeds from all of the participating restaurants, making this the most successful Restaurant Week yet!
We received a grant of $1,000 from the Broome County Arts Council United Cultural Fund
to support our drama program. The final performance, entitled the "Happy Show," was held at the Club on Saturday, March 24.
We received a grant of $4,700 from the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens to support several college tours and college admission workshops for our members.
The Darden Foundation awarded the Club a $1,000 grant to also go toward college tours, workshops, and guest speakers.
February 2012
We received a $2,000 grant from Peoples Neighborhood Bank
to support our Power Hour homework help and tutoring program.
Two of our members, Karen Edwards, age 12, and Shivanni Minney, age 19,
read their award-winning essays on what freedom means to them during the
Sertoma Freedom Banquet on February 21.
Our CYO varsity basketball team won the CYO community league varsity tournament championship held at Seton Catholic Central on February 19.

We received a grant of $11,880 from the Binghamton Community Development
Block Grant Program to engage our teens in a workforce readiness program.
December 2011
We were selected by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to receive $15,000 for
a youth mentoring programming, funded through the
Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Office of Justice Programs,
and U.S. Department of Justice.

at the Riverwalk Hotel.

On November 22, we held our annual Thanksgiving dinner at the Club!
Over 200 Club members attended.
October 2011
On October 27, we held our annual dinner and presented awards to board members
as well as distinguished guests from the community.
Board president, Charles Woody, thanked 1st Sgt. Jim Zemanick for the phenomenal work on the construction of our new playground by the National Guard's 204th Engineering Battalion.
On October 28 we held our annual Harvest Fest at the Club,
complete with a carnival and haunted house!

Our new playground, made possible by a grant from the Klee Foundation, was installed by members of the National Guard's 204th Engineering Battalion.
On June 16th we held our 28th annual Captain and Crew Golf Tournament.
May 2011
We received a grant of $3,890 from the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens to support our efforts with inspiring teens to stay in school and graduate.
April 2011
On April 30 we held a Community Arts Carnival at the Club, featuring our drama program's original performance of "There is Beauty in the World."
Several Binghamton University student groups also performed at the carnival, including the Binghamtonics, picture below.

We received a grant of $33,774 from the Conrad and Virginia Klee Foundation
for a playground at the Club!
We received a grant of $10,000 through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America
for Triple Play healthy lifestyle programming.
Our BU student group, Boys & Girls Club Mentors, in partnership with the Club,
received 2nd place in the Newman's Own Foundation Campus Community Service Challenge grant competition. We received a $15,000 grant award! The winners were announced on March 6 during the America East Conference Basketball Tournament.
February 2011
Thank you to the staff and clients of LifeFitness of the Southern Tier
for donating several fitness items to our workout room at the Club!
We received a grant of $1,000 from the Broome County Arts Council
United Cultural Fund for our drama program, which will culminate
in a final performance and community arts day!
Our Executive Director, Marybeth Smith, was named
Sertoman of the Year by the Binghamton Sertoma Club!
During the Sertoma Freedom Banquet, on February 15th, two children from our Club
read their award-winning essays on the importance of nutrition
and the value of our evening meal program.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton and the Binghamton University student group
Boys & Girls Club Mentors have been named a TOP THREE FINALIST in the
Newman's Own Foundation Campus Community Service Challenge Grant competition.
We are guaranteed $10,000 but may win as much as $25,000! Winners will be announced on Sunday, March 6th, during the America East Men’s and Women’s
Basketball Championship held at the University of Hartford.

United Way of Broome County to repair our drainage issue at Camp Sertoma!

September 2010
On September 23rd Ron Capalaces, a local writer and Binghamton native,
held a book signing at the Club to launch the release of his memoir
When All the Men Were Gone: World War II and the Home Front,
One Boy's Journey Through the War Years.
Over 200 people visited the Club to meet Ron and enjoy 1940s music and dancing.

We are currently partnering with Staples and DoSomething.org to provide school supplies
for our members! The campaign runs until 9/18/10.
An anonymous donor generously gave $5,000 to Camp Sertoma!

We received a grant of $6,155 from the United Way of Broome County to support the Unexpected Step Team!
We received a grant of $710 from Energy Star to host a family night at the Club
that educates about energy conservation!
We received a grant of $250 from the Boys and Girls Clubs of America
to enhance our fine arts programming!
On June 17th Attorney General Andrew Cuomo held a press conference at the Club,
announcing a groundbreaking initiative that will enable social networking sites
to eliminate thousands of images of child pornography.

On April 27th our Volunteer Coordinator, Moshe Roberts, was featured on Channel 34.
On April 17th we held our annual drama production! This year, our members performed Icarus, directed by Rudy Caparaso from REV, a New York-based theatre company.
This production was made possible by grants from the
Broome County Arts Council United Cultural Fund
and TNT DramaMatters Stagecraft Program.
March 2010
On March 27th we held our 4th annual Super Six Shootout Basketball Tournament.

On March 26th we hosted a wellness fair, focused on healthy beverages
and the proposed soda tax.
On March 14th our Volunteer Coordinator, Moshe Roberts, was featured
in the Press & Sun-Bulletin.

We received a Money Matters: Make it Count grant of $1,000 through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, funded by the Charles Schwab Foundation,
to take teens on college field trips.
We received a grant of $5,000 through the Boys & Girls Clubs of America
for Triple Play healthy lifestyle programming.
February 2010
We received a grant of $1,500 from the Broome County Arts Council
United Cultural Fund for our annual drama program.
On February 16th the Binghamton Sertoma Club held their annual Sertoma Freedom Banquet.
Two children from our Club read their winning essays on what the new Club means to them.

We received a grant of $4,239 from the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens
to start a completely teen-run snack bar at the Club.
On February 1st we welcomed Congressman Maurice Hinchey to the Club.
He toured the new building and had the opportunity to meet with our members.

We received a grant of $5,000 from the TNT DramaMatters Afterschool Program
to purchase props, costumes, and set materials to further improve our drama program.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton is pleased to announce that our Club
has been chosen to receive two $1,000 scholarships from Keith and Bev Sodan.
Keith and his wife are Consultants/Performance Coaches for Perform PLUS Consulting, LLC.
Two Club members who entered college this past September will receive the scholarship,
along with coaching and mentoring from Perform PLUS Consulting.
This exciting and unique opportunity for Club members wonderfully supports our mission at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton:
To help youth of all backgrounds, with special concern for those from disadvantaged circumstances, develop the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders.
We know this generous gift will further enhance the skills of our young people

Friday, August 28th, marked our last official day of service at 257 Washington St.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton will now move to 90 Clinton St.,
set to open in late September/early October.

Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) secured $250,000 in federal funding
to help complete the construction of our new building!
The outdoor chess table and chairs for the new building, funded by the
Binghamton Noon Rotary Club #64, has arrived.
We look forward to installing it soon!
We received a grant of $250 from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to support our
Triple Play Daily Challenge program.
By implementing the Daily Challenges, we help teach the importance of fitness
and create a healthy environment where our youth can actively demonstrate their creativity.

The Unexpected Step Team appeared on America's Got Talent!
We received a grant of $3,000 from the Walmart Foundation to continue
our summer meal and snack program.

We received a grant of $4,500 from the Community Foundation for South Central New York.
This grant will go toward updating our member tracking system.
On May 16th, we held our annual drama production! This year, our members performed Pandora's Box, directed by Rudy Caparaso and Rosemary Hay from REV,
a New York-based theatre company.

Broome County Arts Council United Cultural Fund and the Gannett Foundation.
